CATARACT
SURGERY
A cataract is the cloudiness that occurs within the natural lens of the
eye. Cataracts can be caused by diseases such as diabetes, an injury to
the eye, medications, long-term exposures to the sun, eye surgery, or
aging. You may have a cataract if you are experiencing blurred vision,
glare or light sensitivity, poor night vision, double vision in one eye,
fading of colors, or the need for a brighter light to read.
If
our doctors diagnose you with a cataract, surgery is the only method in
which to remove the cataract. A new intraocular lens is implanted within
the eye to replace your old one, making your vision clearer and sharper.
It is recommended for those whose cataracts are bothersome enough to effect
daily routines. If you feel as though a cataract is affecting your vision,
you will need to schedule an evaluation with Dr. Howard Friedberg or Dr.
Andrea Friedberg to have the proper diagnosis and treatment prescribed.
Dr.
Howard Friedberg and Dr, Andrea Friedberg perform surgery at Underwood
Memorial Hospital and Kennedy Surgical Center using the finest instrumentation
available. Both doctors were in the National Honors Society in medical
school and both are Board Certified Ophthalmologists. They have also published
scientific articles, presented research at professional meetings and have
instructed courses on cataract and related eye surgeries. They are both
dedicated to practicing the highest quality of ophthalmology by using
the most successful and up-to-date surgical techniques and have over 35
years of experience between them. |

EYELID
SURGERY
Common eyelid problems include droopy eyelids, eyelids that turn in or
outward, or excess eyelid skin. Patients that are diagnosed with Ptosis
may have symptoms of the condition at birth or may develop symptoms as
the body ages. Ptosis can limit the visual acuity of a patient, including
side and central vision. Surgery can help correct this problem by adjusting
the muscle that opens the eyelid. Excess eyelid skin can also limit vision.
Surgery can be performed to remove excess skin and improve side vision
and other symptoms associated with this problem. When eyelids droop outward
(Ectropion) or turn inward (Entropion), eyes may be dry, red, tear excessively,
and be sensitive to wind and light. Surgery can be performed to protect
the eye and reduce these symptoms. Dr. Andrea Friedberg can properly diagnose
a patient and recommend the best type of treatment that will improve visual
quality and lower the bothersome symptoms that are associated with eyelid
problems.
MUSCLE
SURGERY
After the suggestion of other treatments, Dr. Debra Prieto may recommend
eye muscle surgery for those who suffer from strabismus. Surgery of the
eye muscles can help straighten the eye affected by strabismus, helping
the eyes to work together as a team. Dr. Prieto will inform her patients
whether or not surgery will better your vision or if it would only be
beneficial for cosmetic reasons. She will also inform you of the success
rate for the type of surgery required and the number of surgeries that
may be needed to correct the alignment of the eye. More information concerning
eye muscle surgery can be obtained by contacting our office.
